A sea captain bets a friend that he will marry the first woman that enters the café they are sitting in. What ensues is a treacherous whirlwind of passion and jealousy and the most extravagant love triangle since Dangerous Liaisons. The movie is an adaptation of Milán Füst’s eponymous experimental novel of 1942. This is a tumultuous story that refuses to deal with scientific or political hysteria and further looks away from the rudely undignified without ever forgetting or foregoing its objectivity. The movie highlights the internal tribulations of the external world and the soul complexities and abstractions that we are all too familiar with.
